ACCIONA, in partnership with Makati Business Club, celebrated International Women’s Day this March 8, 2023 with a Safe Spaces Sharing Session. Attendees from the company ranged from all the project sites in the country representing the extent of our diversity – from mid-managers to C-suite.
The value of the partnership with Makati Business Club is their ability to bring in top tier talent for the keynote speaker and the moderator; Meralco AVP and Head of HR Business Partner, Paola Verayo and IBM Philippines President and Country Manager, Aileen Judan-Jiao respectively.
The Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (PBCWE) was in full support as well helping moderate the discussions on a per table basis together with the presence of Women in C-Suite from various companies such as Suy Sing and White and Case. Their valuable input and experience in the discussion brought light to some similar aspects being faced by the company today.
The format of a safe sharing space to commemorate International Women’s Day was effective in its goal to spark change in relatively traditional organizations like ours. Today was an impactful start through sharing and conversing about gaps in the organization being felt in everyday professional lives of ACCIONA members. By listening to and acknowledging the under-represented, participants and allies of true equality were able to understand first-hand our current starting point for change.
This is a paradigm-shift in the making, and today was a great step towards true progress. As the host, Aileen, mentioned, we started making true change by simply showing up in the session today – because by showing up, we recognize there is a problem we are facing and that we are making moves to solve. How to move forward from that with focused intention would now be key.
This initiative does not end today, rather it continues from today. And moving forward we will see more real actions from our internal human resources as guided and supported by our top management.
