- This social program, developed in partnership with the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) and the National Police, is designed to improve road safety in vulnerable neighborhoods across the country
ACCIONA has launched the “A Community on Alert” program in collaboration with the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) and the National Police of Panama as part of its social impact plan for the construction of the new Hospital del Niño.
The initiative was launched in response to deteriorated road infrastructure identified near schools in the areas of Calidonia and Curundú, which increased the risk of traffic accidents involving children. ACCIONA contacted the affected schools, as well as the Education Directorate of the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) and the National Police’s Community Prevention Unit, to develop a structured plan to comprehensively address the issue.
The program focuses on providing training in schools to teach students about road signs and their meaning, as well as responsible behavior by both pedestrians and drivers. In addition, to complement this classroom-based component, students have the opportunity to put what they have learned into practice at the Road Safety Education Park (Parque Omar).
In coordination with its partner institutions, ACCIONA has also installed vertical signage and road warning markings in the areas surrounding the participating schools. As part of the program, the ATTT has committed to reviewing and maintaining this new signage annually, while also updating the training provided to students in response to rising traffic levels in the region.
In 2026, the program expands its reach through a play that will tour schools throughout the year, delivering a message that extends beyond the stage: raising awareness, educating, and saving lives. Because teaching road safety to children today means building a safer future for everyone.
Since its launch in 2024, the program has benefited more than 3,100 students at six educational centers in the districts of Calidonia, Curundú and Santa Ana.
