ACCIONA, in line with its commitment to decarbonizing its construction portfolio, has adopted low emission materials in two new national projects, reducing more than 180 tons of CO₂ emissions.
In one case, the company has introduced 4,000 m³ of concrete made with evoBuild Low Carbon Cement 50 CEM III/A 42.5 N SRC from Heidelberg Materials Hispania, supplied by Hormigones Santander S.L., in the construction of a 52 unit residential development in the Cantabrian capital. In the same project, ACCIONA will use 300 tons of Clean Energy steel, manufactured by CELSA, achieving an additional 42 ton reduction in CO₂ emissions, which represents a 32% decrease compared with the conventional option.
In another initiative, ACCIONA, in collaboration with CEMEX, has used more than 4,500 m³ of concrete made with CEM III A 42.5 SR cement in the access works for the Teruel Hospital.
The use of these concretes made with cements with a footprint lower than 469 kg CO₂ equivalent per ton — as defined in the European taxonomy — results in a reduction of 143 tons of CO₂, equivalent to an 11% cut versus conventional concrete and a 44% reduction compared with the sector average for concrete in Spain.
