World Business Council

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a coalition of some 200 international companies united by a commitment to sustainable development through innovation, ecoefficiency and corporate responsibility. Its members come from over 35 countries and 20 industries.

It aims to promote sustainable practices in institutional and sectoral forums at the international level and participate in initiatives that can generate new business opportunities.

ACCIONA was the first Spanish company of the Ibex 35 index to join this global network and since then is an active member of the same, having been involved in outreach, training and research in various fields.

ACCIONA Chairman and CEO Jose Manuel Entrecanales was re-elected in November 2011 for a second period as member of the Executive Committee of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, period which ended at the end of 2015.

ACCIONA has been actively involved in the Urban Infrastructure Initiative (UII), where it heads the group's communication area. This initiative focuses on the power of business to create new opportunities and come up with practical solutions to help authorities create more sustainable cities.

Throughout 2015, the company has co-led, together with other companies in the sector, the project “Scaling up Renewables in the electricity mix”, which seeks to promote renewable energies within the Low Carbon Technology Partnerships initiative (LCTPi)

Reporting Matters 2014

Reporting Matters 2014 is the outcome of the second review of the WBCSD members’ sustainability or integrated reports covering 162 world-leading companies from more than 20 sectors and 35 countries. The publication aims to help businesses realize the value of reporting by showcasing how progressive companies are using the reporting process to drive change inside their businesses, and ultimately impact the way capital markets allocate financial resources.

Eco4Biz: Ecosystem services and biodiversity tools to support business decision-making.

The guide contains a catalog of computer tools for the assessment and management of business’ impact on ecosystems.
