ACCIONA Energía promotes electric biomass solutions across the value chain of this renewable technology, including the design, construction, and operation of large biomass plants for electricity generation.
In 2002, the company became a pioneer in this type of energy in southern Europe by connecting the Sangüesa biomass plant (Navarre, Spain), which, with 30.2 MW capacity, is a benchmark for the sector. The experience gained by the company since the early stages of biomass development has strengthened its leadership position, particularly in raw material supply logistics.
In 2025, ACCIONA Energía's four biomass plants generated a total of 431 GWh. The new Logrosán plant alone has an estimated annual production of 380 GWh, enabling the avoidance of more than 187,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. In addition, the company promotes the circular economy by recovering and valorizing the slags and ashes produced during the process, reusing them in agriculture and in the construction of its own infrastructure.
Biomass energy helps us design a better planet by developing rural areas, structuring land, fighting against forest fires and establishing itself as a carbon neutral technology – its CO₂ emissions have a neutral balance as it is equivalent to the CO₂ absorbed by the plants used as raw materials during their life.
More information about our biomass activity is available on the ACCIONA Energía website.
From the point of view of CO2 emissions, biomass has a neutral effect on the atmosphere Its CO2 emissions have a neutral balance. We have three operating plants that generate electricity equivalent to the consumption of 118,000 homes per year.
Renewable energies are clean, inexhaustible and competitive sources of energy. The development and adoption of clean energies is essential to limit the worst effects of the climate emergency and build a sustainable energy system.
Energy is present in everything around us, and biomass is the best example of this. Find out all about Miajadas (Cáceres, Spain) and its biomass plant so that you can understand how this renewable energy source works.
