WE SUPPLY CITIZENS WITH DESALINATED WATER

The Almeria desalination plant, commissioned in 2004, was awarded by Almeria City Council and became the second desalination plant in Spain to be designed and the only one in the country to be 100% owned by a city council, with a capacity of 50,000 m3/day.

The drafting of the project, construction and subsequent operation was carried out in a joint venture between Acciona and Abengoa, each holding a 50% stake. In 2020, the City Council decided to expand the plant in order to maximise its production.

The desalination plant covers most of the districts of the municipality. All of the water produced is intended for human consumption.
