We optimized fishing activities
Punta Palmeras wind farm, in operation since 2014, is located in the commune of Canela, in the region of Coquimbo. Near the project is the Maitencillo Artisanal Fishermen's Cove, which has been one of the focal points of ACCIONA’s community relationship policy.
One of the highlights of the work carried out with the artisanal fishermen is the Productive Development program for Caleta Maitencillo, which will improve the conditions of the cove and enhance the fishing activity that takes place there, making a medium and long-term social investment, with real possibilities of selfsustainability.
This program began with a technical-productive proposal, commissioned to Proyecta Consulting, whose purpose was mainly to conduct a participative information survey, through which the fishermen themselves gave an account of their current reality and the gaps that they themselves distinguish to achieve the objectives that have been set for the work in the cove. Thus, it was identified that the improvement of infrastructure is one of the initial milestones that are recognized as a condition to optimize fishing activitieas and shellfish extraction.
The beneficiaries of the initiative correspond to all members of both the Fishermen's Association (24 members) and the Union (45 members). According to the results delivered by Proyecta, 34 people participated in the workshops, that is, half of the total universe of beneficiaries.
Currently, the results of this first phase are being reviewed and the possibilities of support for the first phases of the initiative are being evaluated.
