Accelerating the smart URBAN transformation
Framework
Energy, transport and ICT sectors are essential for the day to day of the city. In fact, these sectors are widely considered as potentially appropriate for achieving economical and societal benefits, because are a key in the quality of life of the citizens, and also represent most of the interrelations of the people with the technology. In particular:
- Energy sector: more than 20% of the energy used in cities is devoted to heating, cooling and lighting. Due this fact, most of the European cities have developed urban plans with ambitious goals for reducing the impact the energy use in buildings.
- Mobility sector has a very important impact in the city quality of life. City pollution from conventional fuel vehicles means 40% of the total pollution in the city. Most of the cities have transportation strategies for improving sustainability, but aspects as the cleaner vehicle massive deployment has to overcome a lot of technical and non-technical barriers.
- ICT sector are fully integrated in cities. Currently there are a lot of good examples of ICT deployment focused on citizens, as navigator systems, electronic information, etc, and everybody has a smart phone, which could be used as a very useful tool for running apps that implement added value services like traffic info, pollution level, free charging points for electric vehicles, energy consumption of the buildings….
Nevertheless, instead of existing all this plans and developments, the challenge of become current cities in smart cities is huge and is still open to a large amount of multidisciplinary opportunities.
Project objectives
REMOURBAN aims at the development of a framework for delivering very ambitious results focused on the improvement of the city sustainability and services while reducing energy and resource consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) and other polluting emissions. Several tasks will be carried out for it, being the most relevant the development of a holistic and replicable model of sustainable urban regeneration, with a jointly approach in the sectors of energy, mobility and ICTs.
An ambitious large scale demonstration will be carried out in the field of energy, mobility and ICTs at large scale in three lighthouse cities (Valladolid-Spain, Nottingham-UK and Tepebasi-Turkey).
These demonstrations will be the base for the future business models, communication and exploitation strategies of the results from the stakeholders side. Parallel, it will be studied which are the potential interventions to carry out in two followers cities: Seraing (Belgium) and Miskolc (Hungry).
ACCIONA´S main rol within the project
Acciona is the main responsible of the building retrofitting in the FASA district in Valladolid demo site, as well as responsible of the BIM methodology development to manage building retrofitting projects at district scale.
Important contribution to the urban regeneration model, that later will be applied in the two follower cities (Seraing y Miskolc). Once this model is refined , it will be useful to assess any European city.
