Largest reconstruction in Queensland's history

The work is part of Operation Queensland, the largest reconstruction effort in Queensland's history, rebuilding communities, repairing infrastructure and restoring regional economies.

ACCIONA was awarded in a Joint Venture by Transport and Main Roads to undertake the repair and rehabilitation of the Mackay West Package road network in January 2012. Among the actions carried out, numerous excavations and earthworks have been undertaken, transversal drainage works and surface drainage have been enlarged and protected with the construction of manholes, sub-bases and bases have been made in drainage and road widening, embankments and cuttings have been executed and re-profiled.

Soil-cement stabilisation operations have also been undertaken, asphalt watering has been carried out, and the horizontal signalling and road markings have been executed, without forgetting the environmental integration of all the actions.

This project included pavement rehabilitation under live traffic conditions, and posed many challenges in the sheer geographical nature of sites and resource availability in the region. The extent of works on 5 transport routes surrounding the Bowen Basin included the reconstruction of approximately 96km of road spread over 43 sites located more than 250km West of Mackay encompassed by the townships of Nebo, Collinsville, Belyando Crossing and Clermont.

The works have been delivered at a number of sites in the West Package. The contract was extended for additional works.
