CLEAN, NON-POLLUTING ENERGY
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
1 in 8 people still do not have access to electricity. In order to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, it is necessary to increase the use of renewable energy from 25 % today to 38 % in 2025.
ACCIONA is positioning itself as a key player in addressing the growth in energy demand while curbing the progress of global warming and promoting the transition to a decarbonized energy model.
CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
The generation and use of energy is responsible for 74 % of total greenhouse gas emissions in the world. This activity is the largest contributor to global warming. Investment in renewable energy, energy efficiency and other low carbon technologies will continue to be essential to meet the new needs of humanity and to minimise their negative impact on the environment.
ACCIONA considers the fight against climate change and its related effects to be a strategic priority. The Company is working to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in order to contribute to the progress of society and respond to the main challenges of sustainable development in the areas of infrastructure, water and energy, leading the transition to a low-carbon economy.
The San Gabriel wind farm, in construction since 2018, is located in the commune of Renaico, in the Araucanía region. During the construction of the project, there have been several visits from schools and universities, which seek to bring closer the development of renewable energy and the operation of sustainable buildings to local educational communities.
Within the coordinated visits, an activity was carried out with the University of La Frontera, with 25 students of the career of Industrial Civil Mechanical Engineering, who were involved in topics of prevention, environment, civil works and assemblies.
The main characteristics of the wind farm, the role of each department and the main particularities in the construction/assembly of the project were presented. The visit ended with a tour of the working areas of the Park.
Likewise, 43 students of the Liceo Politécnico Domingo Santa María visited the facilities. They were instructed in the topics of renewable energies, environment and prevention.
These students toured the facilities paying special attention to the areas that showed the works for the installation of a wind farm: construction of roads, excavations, construction of foundations, pre-assembly of shaft sections and mechanical assembly among others.
With these initiatives, ACCIONA shows its interest in young people learning about renewable energy and thus gradually achieve a change in the mentality of communities and teach how to protect our planet.
