About the Role

Acciona Agua is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Manager to oversee the commercial and contractual functions across major water infrastructure projects. This national role is pivotal in ensuring financial performance, contract compliance, and risk management while supporting project delivery teams to meet strategic objectives.

You will lead contract negotiations, cost control, claims management, and ensure alignment with legal and regulatory frameworks. This is a leadership role requiring strong stakeholder engagement and a deep understanding of construction contracts and commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Stakeholder & Supply Chain Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with strategic stakeholders and supply chain partners.
  • Identify market opportunities and support local industry engagement.
  • Communicate project risks and procurement strategies effectively.

Contractual Risk & Revenue Management

  • Lead risk management practices and ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Oversee contract approvals and manage procurement risks.
  • Promote innovative solutions while protecting company interests.

Procurement Strategy

  • Select and manage appropriate procurement models for various projects.
  • Encourage contractor innovation and ensure alignment with legislative and policy requirements.

Commercial & Legal Alignment

  • Provide expert advice on contract law and procurement.
  • Influence stakeholders to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Manage complex legal and commercial issues throughout the project lifecycle.

Data Analytics & Financial Oversight

  • Use data analytics to monitor financial performance and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership based on commercial insights.

Project Support & Governance

  • Align commercial strategy with project delivery.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and compliance with governance standards.
  • Support audits and maintain transparent documentation.

Required Skills and Competencies

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Commerce, or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., MBA, Master of Construction Law) are desirable.
  • 8–10+ years of commercial management experience in large-scale infrastructure or water projects.
  • Proven experience with Tier 1 contractors or major public/private sector projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian construction contracts (AS4000, NEC, FIDIC).
  • Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting tools (e.g., SAP, Excel).
  • Strong understanding of Australian labour legislation and procurement law.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
