The Opportunity
Construction of the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant will commence over the coming months and the project is expected to be completed in 2029. The Alliance will design, construct, operate and maintain the Plant which will produce 50 billion litres of drinking water per year, with provision to expand by an additional 50 billion litres per year in the future.
Reporting to the Environmental and Sustainability Manager, you will primarily be on site and responsible for the day to site management activities as well as leading and developing a cohort of environmental coordinators & advisors. You will also assist in developing and managing a budget and ongoing weekly/monthly reporting to the client and other relevant stakeholders.
Key accountabilities for the position
- Liaise with construction teams and engineers on environmental issues.
- Assist with managing systems to support project delivery to obtain and maintain compliance with relevant state and commonwealth environmental approvals.
- Report to Environment and Sustainability Manager on environment and performance on systems and improvement opportunities.
- Provide support to the project team to enable them to meet their environment commitments.
- Implement Environment Policy, Management Plans, Subplan, Procedures and Legislative Requirements
- Drive commitment to environment and sustainability outcomes within the project teams.
- Mentor and facilitate development of direct reports.
- Develop and update environmental documentation including CEMP, environmental procedures, worksite environmental management plans and environmental control plans.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant statutes, regulations, rules, procedures, standards, and policies.
- Development and delivery of environmental training, toolboxes and inductions.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Equivalent.
- Substantial site experience with environmental regulations and implementation of management plans in the construction industry.
- Working knowledge of audit procedures and processes.
- Highly developed communication skills and an ability to lead a team of coordinator/advisors in the field.
