True to its commitment to sustainable development and the fight against climate change, ACCIONA is taking an active part in disseminating and promoting the Communiqué in the business community. The document lays out the position of the Corporate Leaders Group for Climate Change, as on previous occasions by the Bali, Poznan and Copenhague Communiqués.

The Cancun Communiqué calls for firm bilateral and multilateral agreements in five key areas of action:

  • Energy efficiency across all sectors. Robust financial and policy support for energy efficiency measures (including standards and targets) in buildings (both non-residential and residential), transport and industry.
  • Low-carbon energy systems. Strong policy support and fast-track funding for low-carbon energy sources, infrastructure development, and research, development and deployment in buildings (both non-residential and residential), industry and transport (including a comprehensive global approach on emissions from aviation and shipping).
  • Emissions capture and storage. Greater financial and policy support for the scale up of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies.
  • Emissions from other greenhouse gases. Increased efforts on tackling other GHG emissions such as methane, nitrous oxide and "F-gases", and the impact of black carbon.
  • Urban planning, land-use management and land-use change. It is important to address the carbon emissions impact of land-use both in terms of urban and rural environments.

ACCIONA joined The Corporate Leaders Group (CLG) in 2009 as sole Spanish representative. CLG is a group of industry leaders set up in 2007 under the auspices of HRH Charles, Prince of Wales, and is part of Cambridge University's Industry Programme. The member companies share the view of the urgent need to develop new policies taking a long term approach to Climate Change.
