The Company will manage the town's water treatment and supply for the next four years thanks to a contract worth 5.24 million euro.

The Town Council of Zafra, in Badajoz province (Southwest Spain), has awarded ACCIONA Agua a 5.24 million euro contract for the town's drinking water supply and wastewater treatment services for the next four years, with a possible additional four-year extension if all the interested parties are satisfied.

This contract stands out for its relevance in the field of public-private cooperation between ACCIONA and the provincial authorities-through Promedio (Badajoz Provincial Authority's Environmental Management Consortium-, with which the Company is already working on other contracts in the city, such as O&M for the Alcarrache drinking water treatment plant.

ACCIONA has committed to making more than half-a-million euros' worth of improvements to the installations over the four-year period, mainly on improving the quality of the water distributed, and installing a leakage detection system and remote control devices aimed at real-time, remote monitoring of the network.

Major changes are also foreseen for the local wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), such as cleaning, overall improvements and the upgrading of the plant's treatment processing equipment.

Customer service will be largely unaffected. The current ten-member service team will be absorbed as part of the new arrangement. The Water Services Offices will remain at its current location for the time being, awaiting a new site for the next four years. Similarly, and until further notice, there is no change in the phone numbers for enquiries and repairs. Billing will continue to be on a quarterly basis and collection management will remain in the hands of the provincial authorities' Official Collection Agency.
The Consortium's efforts are all aimed at ensuring sustainable development for the town of Zafra, fostering efficient treatment and consumption of water at all times.

ACCIONA Agua's main objective is to provide excellent service for the people of Zafra, based on advanced Customer Service Management technology. ACCIONA Agua will manage both water cycle and commercial services. There are also plans to introduce cutting-edge technology to improve existing infrastructure in an effort to make it more efficient and environmentally sustainable.

ACCIONA Agua holds similar contracts with more than 70 local and regional authorities across Spain, serving a population equivalent of more than three million inhabitants in all.

ACCIONA's most significant water services management contracts include the management of the municipal drinking water, treatment and purification services for Caceres City Council (Southwest Spain); end-to-end water services for Granada's "Costa Tropical" Association of Municipalities; end-to-end water services through a private-public joint venture for the Jaen provincial authorities (Southern Spain), servicing more than 250,000 customers in more than 35 municipalities; or the O&M services for Valencia's entire sewer network (Eastern Spain). And in the Spanish capital, Madrid, ACCIONA manages 50% of the municipal sewer system.
