ACCIONA Australia was announced winner of the prestigious Lord Mayors 2012 Award for "Business Innovation" at a function at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre attended by more than 600 of Queensland's business, community and political leaders. The award recognises companies which demonstrate innovation and competitiveness in the national or global market.

ACCIONA has used a number of technical approaches that reduced cost, minimised environmental impact and increased efficiency across the projects that are currently under construction. One example is the use of a spoil conveyor tunnel from Toowong to Mount Coot-tha Quarry Brisbane, eliminating the requirement for 96,000 haulage truck movements on surface roads.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk recognised ACCIONA for its commitment to research, development and innovation as key factors to its distinction in the national and global marketplace.

"ACCIONA's drive to constantly find new and better ways to operate is evident in its design and construction of the Legacy Way road tunnel," said Lord Mayor Quirk.

The $1.5 billion project is currently under construction by ACCIONA as part of the Transcity Joint Venture. ACCIONA was also named a finalist in the Energex Award for Sustainability in Business and the Award for New Investment.
