ACCIONA has historic flagship projects in Hong Kong. The most prominent are the Ting Kau Bridge, one of the most important bridges in the world, and the Kowloon Station that includes the Airport Express line.
Ting Kau Bridge is the world’s first major twin main span cable-stayed bridge. The design of this bridge contains unique features such as single leg towers stabilized by transverse cables, just like the masts of a sailboat and full span stay cables between towers. The Ting Kau Bridge is not just a significant landmark—it also carries the heaviest traffic volume of the bridges supporting traffic to and from mainland China and the Hong Kong container port.
The work was completed in 1998 includes the Airport Express Line (AEL), the Lantau Line (LAL), the public transport hub and associated future East Kowloon Line (EKL). All platforms are underground and separated vertically. The station also serves as a support base for future developments.
All stations are pile-supported elevated structures. The construction included foundations, reinforced concrete works, structural and architectural sidewalks, footbridges, links to the existing subway, new subways, elevated walkway systems, E&M signalling installation and architectural finishing works.
