    Puhoi-Warkworth Highway

    The award of the PPP contract to a consortium involving ACCIONA to build the Phoi-Warkworth section of the highway is ACCIONA’s first project in New Zealand and consists of an 18-5 km, four-lane extension of the Northern Motorway from the Johnstone Hills tunnels to the north of Warkworth.

    Construction of the section of the Puhoi-Warkworth highway is the first project by ACCIONA in New Zealand and consists of an 18-5 km, four-lane extension (with 2.5 km of bridges and viaducts) of the Northern Motorway from the Johnstone Hills tunnels to the north of Warkworth.

    This is the first section in the Ara Tühono – Puhoi-to-Wellsford corridor, which will contribute to economic growth in the Northland region and provide a more reliable and safer road linking the triangle formed by the cities of Auckland, Waikato and Tauranga. The Puhoi-Warkworth highway is to open to traffic in 2022.

    ACCIONA’s partners in the Northern Express Group consortium are: Accident Compensation Corporation, HRL Morrison & Co Public Infrastructure Partners, Fletcher Building Ltd, Macquarie Group Holdings New Zealand Ltd, The Fletcher Construction Company Ltd and Higgins Contractors Ltd.
