The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a coalition of some 200 international companies united by a commitment to sustainable development through innovation, ecoefficiency and corporate responsibility. Its members come from over 35 countries and 20 industries.

It aims to promote sustainable practices in institutional and sectoral forums at the international level and participate in initiatives that can generate new business opportunities.

ACCIONA was the first Spanish company of the Ibex 35 index to join this global network and since then is an active member of the same, having been involved in outreach, training and research in various fields.

In October 2009 José Manuel Entrecanales was elected to the Executive Committee At present, ACCIONA is actively involved in the Urban Infrastructure Initiative (UII), where it heads the group's communication area. This initiative focuses on the power of business to create new opportunities and come up with practical solutions to help authorities create more sustainable cities.
