We’re seeking a diligent and technically minded Cost Controller to join our project controls team, with a focus on mechanical and pipework scopes. You’ll be responsible for developing robust cost forecasts, monitoring performance through Earned Value metrics, and partnering closely with engineers and site teams to ensure costs remain on track. Your systems-based approach and Excel expertise will be key to driving data-led decisions and training others in our cost control tools and processes.

The Project
The project includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant with first production in 2028. Works include marine works and tunnels, seawater intake system, a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, groundwater system, drinking water storage and pump system, supported by civil, electrical and bulk earthworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain forecasts based on key mechanical and pipework commodity drivers, updating projections as project conditions evolve.
  • Create, maintain and optimise Excel workbooks to be used as databases for PowerBI visualisation
  • Analyse Earned Value metrics, including CPI and SPI, providing timely insight into project performance.
  • Monitor productivity trends and factor them into cost forecasts and recovery plans.
  • Manage multiple cost codes across mechanical and pipework disciplines, liaising with engineers to validate cost forecasting and resolve discrepancies.
  • Coach project teams on cost control systems and software—ensuring consistent application of processes across site and office.
  • Understand “Rate to Date” and “Rate to Complete” reports, interpret their implications for budget and schedule, and advise engineers accordingly.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Minimum 5 years in a cost control role on mechanical or pipework projects within heavy industry or infrastructure.
  • Strong track record of delivering accurate, commodity-based forecasts.
  • Demonstrated ability to model complex interdependencies across multiple work packages.
  • Solid understanding of EVM principles, CPI calculation and performance interpretation.
  • Experience quantifying and applying productivity factors to cost forecasts.
  • Direct experience managing mechanical and pipework cost elements.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6, SAP, Oracle Cost Management or similar systems.
