Anthropologist, diplomat and climate change analyst. She was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from 2012 to 2016, successfully delivering the historic Paris Agreement of 2015.  For her remarkable leadership she has been awarded the highest honors of the governments of Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Costa Rica, and Chile. Most recently Queen Elisabeth II has awarded her the title of Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE).

She is the founder of the social enterprise Global Optimism, Ltd. co-host of the podcast Outrage and Optimism, and co-author of the award-winning book The Future We Choose.

She studied at London School of Economics and Georgetown University ,and has been granted honorary doctorates from the University of Massachusetts Boston, Concordia University, Georgetown University, Cranfield University, Warwick University, University of Edinburgh, University of Bristol, Yale University, World Maritime University, and Smith College.

Ms. Figueres grants strategic guidance to multiple companies, including Amazon and Macquarie. She is a distinguished member of the corporate B Team, and co-founder of the Climate Pledge and the Asset Owner Alliance for Net Zero.

She was formerly Director of the Technical Secretariat of Renewable Energy in the Americas (REIA) and, in 1995, she founded Center for Sustainable Development in the Americas (CSDA), a non-profit organization, which she directed for eight years.

She chairs the Earthshot Prize Foundation created by Prince William of the United Kingdom and belongs to the Board of Directors of San Cristobal, S.A.
