THERMAL SOLAR PLANTS FOR CUSTOMERS

Engineering, construction and operation of solar thermal plants for the customer as an EPC project contractor

THERMAL SOLAR POWER

In 2007, ACCIONA played the leading role in the revival of solar thermal energy when it commissioned the Nevada Solar One plant in the desert of Nevada, USA. It became the first company in the world to launch a thermoelectric plant after the projects undertaken in California between 1985 and 1991.

Subsequently, it built five more of its own solar thermal power plants, all in Spain, totalling 249.80 MW of capacity, which were divested in 2018.

Currently, ACCIONA offers its extensive experience in the engineering, construction and operation of solar thermal plants to clients as an EPC (turnkey) project contractor. The most emblematic projects undertaken to date are the Kathu (100 MW) and Bokpoort (50 MW) plants in South Africa (both with parabolic cylinder technology), and Cerro Dominador (110 MW), currently under construction in the Atacama Desert (Chile). All of them have an energy storage system.

More information about our thermar solar (CSP) activity is available on the ACCIONA Energía website.

We partner with the sun to produce the energy with which we combat the climate emergency and lead the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Solar thermal plants for clients

Solar thermal energy is reborn when the Nevada Solar One plant is connected to the grid. It is the largest solar thermal plant installed in the world since 1990.

WHAT IS SOLAR ENERGY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Solar energy has many benefits that make it one of the most promising. It is also ideal for use in isolated points of the network or in areas that are difficult to access.

EXPERIENCE

A century making electricity from water

In many respects, it is a living museum. The beauty of its architecture, and the antiquated machinery sparkling within its halls, are a delight to behold. But a century after construction, Seira hydroelectric power station is still generating clean energy.

EXPERIENCE

The challenge of storing renewable energy

The hydroelectric pumping station at Ip, built and operated by ACCIONA, stores clean energy in order to free it when needed through a high-pressure gallery and pipework with a head of over 900 meters.
