The ACCIONA Agua desalination plant in Tampa (Florida, US) was distinguished as the Best of the Year in recognition of the most significant technological advances made in the desalination industry. Inaugurated in January, it is the largest desalination plant in the US.

Awarded by the magazine Global Water Intelligence, this is one of the most prestigious awards in the water sector in the world. ACCIONA Agua was the only Spanish company nominated.

ACCIONA Agua was elected Best Desalination Company in the Global Water Intelligence Annual Awards 2007. In this category, they were voted the company that had made the highest contribution to the industry in 2006. Torrevieja won a Silver award in the Desalination Project of the Year category, and in the Desalination Plant of the Year category, Cartagena plant (phases I and II) also received Silver.
