Wind power technology

ACCIONA is developing the most modern of technologies in the field of on-shore wind power and is a pioneer in the major challenge entailed in off-shore generation.

The European objectives set for 2020 require that 20% of all energy come from renewable sources. Meeting these objectives depends, to a great extent, on the degree to which progress is made in off-shore wind power

Eolia project: deep-sea wind power generation

Off-shore wind power technology is, in many fields, a challenge and a demanding yet stimulating technological test greater than the off-shore oil and gas industry. There are currently some major stumbling blocks to be overcome in the design and analysis of feasible site locations, specific building methods and sturdy, efficient wind turbines.

ACCIONA is one of the reference-point companies worldwide in this field.

This Spanish multinational company is spearheading the main international projects and is one of the most active in developing new technologies applied to the implementation of deep-sea off-shore wind power parks (more than 40 meters below sea level). Th research activity in this field is being carried out at the Technological Center of Pamplona in collaboration with the one in Madrid, specialized in construction.

One of the most important projects in which it is taking part in EOLIA, within the framework of the initiatives of Spain's Ministry of Science and Innovation 's Strategic National Consortia for Technological Innovation (CENIT).

EOLIA is a consortium comprised of 16 companies, headed by ACCIONA Energy, with a budget of 33.9 million euros.

A total of 25 research centers and seven companies are working on this as entities subcontracted by the consortia partners. This project encompasses a total of 10 research activities with 50 areas and 189 subareas.
