Solar technologies
Improving the efficiency of the solar technologies is another of the challenges facing ACCIONA Energy.
Store project: energy storage in solar thermal plants
Storing electricity in large quantities still continues to one of the most important challenges posed in the energy field. The Store project is the first energy storage project in Spain and the most important in Europe.
Through its participation in the Store project, ACCIONA is carrying out, in consortium with Endesa and REE, an integrated demonstrative electric power storage project for the purpose of optimizing solar thermal plant output.
ACCIONA is aiming, by means of this project, to heighten the manageability of the plants thanks to the harnessing of the energy that is lost by saturation of the turbine in the hottest months. The improvements in the management of the plants will make it possible to ensure a greater degree of certainty when scheduling power production and of knowing the energy which is going to be injected into the network daily.
ACCIONA holds
a leadership position worldwide in the development of
thermoelectric solar plants after having carried out in 2007 the
construction of the third largest plant in the world employing this
technology, Nevada Solar One 64 MW in the state of Nevada
(U.S.A.).
In 2010, ACCIONA has four of its own solar thermal plants under construction in Spain with proprietary technology.
