New Eco-Efficient Building Processes

ACCIONA is trying to develop more environmentally-respectful building processes to replace those currently in use by way of employing differential technologies and waste re-use and remediation.

End of life tires in fills

ACCIONA has shown another of its lines of research to be a success: the re-use of shredded tires as fill for soil stabilization. A new way of recycling end-of-life (EOL) tires. The M-111 highway was the first time in Europe that a ramp measuring 200 meters in length by 8 meters in height at its highest point had ever been built using shredded tires. A total of 2,200 metric tons of tires were needed or, what is the same, a total of 240,000 tires were recycled, almost the total number of tires which are recycled in Madrid in one year's time.

Biotechnology in soil stabilization

procesos_constructivosACCIONA has introduced for the very first time the use of molecules from sugar cane as a chemical soil stabilizer instead of the cement and lime used in conventional processes. These are totally degradable, nontoxic, non-flammable, non-corrosive liquid enzymes; their use therefore, as well as having a lesser impact on the land, entails a reduction of CO2 emissions of 28.2 kg per m3.
