Energy Efficiency in Building Construction
Standing by its commitment to sustainability, ACCIONA is focusing its efforts on the construction of buildings with increasingly fewer CO2 emissions.
To this end, it is focusing on four major lines: bioclimatic architecture, making it possible to reduce energy consumption through design, the use of more energy-efficient materials, the implementation of cutting-edge generation and demand management technologies, and the integration of renewable energies into the construction elements.
Arfrisol-ALMERÍA. Building following the dictates of Nature
ACCIONA has built an office building in the Tabernes Desert in Almeria with 80%-90% energy savings.
The framing was designed with the aim of making the best use of the characteristics of local climate, in other words, to make the best possible use of the sunlight and heat.
In addition to this design dictated by Nature, cutting-edge materials and techniques were also employed for achieving a proper offsetting of temperatures and lighting, ranging from combining insulating techniques and architectural solutions with latest-generation infrastructures, such as solar chimneys and panels. Also key to this building process was the implementation of thermal solar energy by way of the development of the Solar Cold technology. The end result is a 64% energy savings, a 75% savings on lighting and a 90% savings on heating and cooling.
Toward "Zero-emission" cities and city districts
ACCIONA has
joined forces with the Town Council of Sant Cugat del Vallés
(Barcelona) in a project studying the development of what may very
well be Spain's first zero carbon emissions residential
community.
The combination of the highest-level innovation in construction and renewable energies will be resulting in an infrastructure with a 30%-50% lower energy consumption and a net balance of zero emissions in heating and hot sanitary water.
