Métrica, a tool for gauging environmental performance.
Métrica is a tool for monitoring and controlling ACCIONA's environmental performance. It aims to manage environmental data collected by all the Company's production centers, thereby allowing information to improve processes and set targets that are then built into the environmental management system. Métrica ensures the reliability of data for decision-making and provides major transparency of information.
Immediate awareness of legal changes.
The entire Quality and Environment team at ACCIONA is working to implement a software tool that will keep all the company's production centers informed of legal changes that affect them.
This tool will identify and verify the legal requirements applicable to each of them.
Environmental risks.
The management of environmental risks in ACCIONA takes place in two areas: environmental management systems implemented in each business line and the corporate risk management system.
Environmental management systems
The environmental management system detects the potential environmental risks arising from ACCIONA's activities in both normal and emergency conditions. Once identified, they are tracked using the corporate environmental policy and the environmental management system itself. Possible negative impacts are thus avoided.
Risk management system
ACCIONA has a risk management system which includes, within the company's risk map, environmental risks known as 'incidental risks', environmental events which have an impact on the company's image considering its economic and financial consequences, and the negative impact on sustainability and development.
Environmental Responsibility
All ACCIONA centers comply with the legal requirements of environmental laws and their activities are insured against possible environmental risks. The company has an Environmental Responsibility insurance policy taken out since 2008, even before the Environmental Liability Act (Law 26/2007) came into force in Spain, which specifies this requirement for certain business activities.
The obligation to provide guarantees to address environmental risks are set according to the assessment of the costs of repairing damage. The law foresees the use of various tools to calculate that guarantee and analyze the potential environmental risks. ACCIONA Infrastructures, as member of the SEOPAN Committee on Environment, assists in the development of a tool to facilitate compliance with legal requirements for companies in the construction sector.
