Diversity, equity and inclusion

For sustainable growth

DIVERSITY AS A STRENGTH

ACCIONA believes that diversity, and in particular inclusion, contributes to the creation of organisations that can generate innovative solutions in response to complex and constantly changing environments. In other words, sustainable development and an effective fight against climate change are possible thanks to talent, commitment, leadership and diversity.

That’s why ACCIONA sees diversity as an opportunity and equality and inclusion as priorities when managing its people, so as to promote sustainable development, human rights and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

ACCIONA aims to be the best company to work for, where both men and women can develop their careers with full equality of opportunity, as well as creating a culture that promotes the integration of work and personal life across all areas.

Female talent at ACCIONA

Rosa Soto: “When I came to the site I was the only woman among 179 men”.

As a woman, she was a pioneer, head of environmental and social impact management at the first wind farm in Chile. Today, this trained biologist has become one of the bright lights for diversity in ACCIONA – and the rest of society.

Female talent at ACCIONA

Elena Navarro: “I will never be a senior, there is always more to learn than to teach.”

Elena Navarro is a Digital Business Development & Smart Society Manager at ACCIONA. An engineer, innovator, mother, and above all, an expert in asking questions, she is fostering some of the most advanced technologies of the moment with a great objective: to make our lives easier.

SOSTENIBL@S 50:50 – PROMOTING FEMALE LEADERSHIP

Women are currently under-represented in sectors such as construction and energy. In response to this, ACCIONA has developed the "Sostenibl@s 50:50" programme. This programme actively encourages the participation of women in all the company's activities and promotes their leadership.

"Sostenibl@s 50:50 is a strong expression of ACCIONA's commitment to having a positive impact on the communities in which it operates. Through this programme, ACCIONA invests in the education and training of women, offering them opportunities for professional and personal growth and development.

Sostenibl@s 50:50" sends a clear message to society: excellence has no gender.

SOSTENIBL@S 50:50 HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ON COMMUNITIES THROUGH THREE OBJECTIVES

1. THE GENUINE INCLUSION OF WOMEN IN THE ENERGY AND CONSTRUCTION SECTORS

The participation of women in projects should not be limited to a set number of positions out of the total workforce, but to the real inclusion of women in all positions, from operators to senior management. Our aim is to ensure that local female talent has equal opportunities to access the labour market, training, pay without gender bias and access to managerial positions.

2. A POSITIVE IMPACT ON LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Through initiatives to promote female talent and certified technical training provided by the company, we support women so that they in turn have the financial independence to support their families. Not only does this increase their employability, but it also creates reproducible models for other women, thus removing the persistent stigma of women's presence in certain activities.

3. ATTRACTING, RETAINING AND DEVELOPING FEMALE TALENT

Our organisation's commitment to true inclusion has a direct impact on attracting, retaining and developing female talent in managerial positions. This gives our organisation a competitive advantage.

WE PROMOTE DIVERSITY

COMMITTED TO INCLUSION IN THE WORKPLACE

ACCIONA values the talents of people with disabilities and therefore promotes programmes for the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workplace in all its areas.

Programs for the integration of people with disabilities

    ALL PEOPLE ARE EQUAL PROGRAMME

An inclusion initiative for young people with disabilities who have recently graduated from university. Thanks to this programme, recent graduates in Spain, Mexico, Chile and Australia can receive specific training to develop their skills and find their first job opportunity in Infrastructure and Energy departments.

    + DIVERSE + CAPABLE PROGRAMME

A programme designed to help people with Down's syndrome and intellectual disabilities in Spain to find work. Through this programme, ACCIONA identifies sequential tasks that could provide employment opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. The initiative is being developed in collaboration with foundations experienced in the field of intellectual disabilities, which provide support in the search for profiles and in raising awareness among the recruitment teams.

    Our people

JESÚS ARGUMEDO: “TALENT MUST ALWAYS PREVAIL OVER DISABILITY”

There are many ways to experience disability. For Jesús, it is a setback to be overcome, but not a problem. That’s why blindness is only a side issue in our conversation. He prefers to talk in terms of talent, without labels. Diversity specialist Jesús Argumedo has worked in some of the world's leading multinationals, defended a cum laude thesis and works every day to promote values of inclusion and accessibility. All with a visual impairment.

Alfredo López Mendiburu: “We have been changing the world for over twenty years.”

Fredi López Mendiburu works in the Health, Quality, Safety and Environment Department. Father of triplets and with paraplegia, he has spent a lifetime seeing the glass half full and two decades as an ambassador of renewable energies, especially biomass, the apple of his eye, in ACCIONA Energía.

    OUR LOCAL PRESENCE

A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY

ACCIONA works in more than 40 countries and, as a company, is aware of its role in the communities in which it operates. It seeks to make a positive impact that improves people's lives, encourages local hiring and protects minorities.

In total, 20 different ethnic groups make up the company's workforce. We promote inclusion through specific plans in our projects, including training, awareness-raising, barrier removal, recruitment and working with bodies and institutions.

      INTERNAL DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION NETWORKS

Through internal diversity and inclusion networks, the company spreads good practice throughout the organisation.

These networks, which drive diversity policies and programmes, have diversity committees in all businesses and strategic countries. In total, 13 committees of employees have been created who represent all groups, and their role is to gather information from their environment, share best practices and develop proposals and initiatives on diversity, equality and inclusion. This promotes a diverse and inclusive workplace, in line with the company's purpose, values and objectives.
