As part of its commitment to improving quality of life and ensuring the well-being of future generations, ACCIONA has launched a meter providing an estimate of the global weekly and annual CO₂ emissions avoided by renewable energy projects built and operated by ACCIONA (*).

(*) This estimate is not an indication of ACCIONA’s ownership of the emissions reductions or other environmental attributes.

Weekly calculation

Weekly avoided CO₂ emissions are calculated using equations to obtain the quantity of CO₂ emissions avoided in the preceding week:

• Energy generated in Spain that week (MWh) multiplied by Spain's annual emission factor (tCO₂/MWh) = avoided CO₂ emissions that week (tCO₂).
• Energy generated in Germany that week (MWh) multiplied by Germany's annual emission factor (tCO₂/MWh) = avoided CO₂ emissions that week (tCO2).
• Etc. (one equation per country).
• Adds up to the quantity of avoided CO₂ emissions in that week in all countries where ACCIONA produces renewable electricity.

Year to date calculation

To obtain the cumulative avoided CO2 emissions in the year to date:

Current week's avoided CO₂ emissions (tCO₂) + Avoided CO₂ emissions in the year to date, obtained by adding up avoided emissions in previous weeks (tCO₂) = (Cumulative annual emissions to date (tCO₂))
