Sponsorship and patronage
ACCIONA´s commitment to social and economic development is demonstrated in its involvement in sponsorship and patronage.
In 2007, ACCIONA donated more than 7 million euros to these kinds of activities.
ACCIONA is constantly trying to improve people’s quality of life, and collaborates with institutions specifically committed to solve key problems facing society. Some of the most recent projects are:
- ACCIONA and the Cardiovascular Research National Centre:
ACCIONA is part of the historic agreement to help finance the Cardiovascular Research National Centre, contributing 100 million euros. It is one of the most important and relevant business donations, due to its size, social relevance, the group of companies involved and the projected results.
- ACCIONA and Expo Zaragoza 2008:
ACCIONA has donated 8 million euros to become the fourth Expo Zaragoza 2008 partner. The International Expo Zaragoza 2008 will be held from the 14th of June to the 14th of September, and the theme is Water and Sustainable Development.
- Conference on Energy, Cities and Global Warming:
ACCIONA was the sponsor and also actively participated in this conference held in Madrid in February 2007. José Manuel Entrecanales, Chairman of ACCIONA, drew attention to the problems of emissions caused by the current energy model, and urged companies to support renewable energy as a solution for global warming. Present at the meeting was the former Vice President of the United States and Nobel Prize winner, Al Gore. Sponsored by ACCIONA, the meeting was part of the `World Opportunities´ initiative.
- ACCIONA and Global Change:
ACCIONA sponsored the pre-launch of the documentary `An Inconvenient Truth´ in Spain, in which Al Gore presents the case for climate change.
- Museo del Prado (Prado Museum):
In 2007, ACCIONA started sponsoring the Museum and will have contributed 2.5 million euros by 2011. This contribution will partly go to conservation and restoration of the Museum, one of its most important projects. The first event sponsored by ACCIONA as new benefactor of the Prado was the Patinir Exhibition.
- ACCIONA and the ONCE Foundation:
ACCIONA and ONCE Foundation have signed the ACCIONA Inserta collaboration agreement, committing to the employment of disabled people. At the end of the program, direct and indirect employment will increase by more than 3%.
- ACCIONA and the Moroccan-Saharan nomads:
ACCIONA Trasmediterranea, one of the leaders in maritime transportation between the peninsula and Africa, has collaborated in a health project with the Moroccan-Saharan nomad population.
- Water Sustainability in Four Aurora and New Écija Communities in the Philippines:
This project establishes a two-year programme to drastically reduce poverty in 1000 families. One of the objectives is the construction of new infrastructure, training, awareness and technical assistance, as well as promotion of four water cooperatives. - Water Challenge:
In 2006, ACCIONA was part of an initiative launched by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with Canal Isabel II`(Madrid´s public water company) , to create citizen awareness regarding the importance of saving water, giving clear examples on how to reduce domestic consumption of water.
- Gomaespuma Foundation:
Gomaespuma, (a Spanish radio & TV programme) travelled to Senegal with ACCIONA to witness the different realities of that country and broadcasted three live programmes.
- Junior Achievement:
In collaboration with the educational foundation, Junior Achievement, ACCIONA, has launched an educational project called `Partners for a Day´, in which 16-17 year-olds could learn everything about a workplace and spend a day with volunteer directors.
- San Juan de Lurigancho (Perú):
ACCIONA helped NGO Help in Action (Ayuda en Acción) to build and implement an early years centre in San Juan de Lurigancho, Peru. This project provides for eighty 0 to 3 year old children to gain full access to education in this deprived area.
