ACCIONA Agua meets the requirements of a population of more than 50 million people in 20 countries around the world.

Water is a key determining factor for sustainability in establishing populations, agricultural, industrial and tourist activities and for ecosystems involving human and production activity. As a limited resource, measures to improve its management and supply are essential, through efficient technologies which respect the environment.

At ACCIONA we are proud to have a long history in the optimisation of water management, in which we have invested and continue to invest maximum effort in technological innovation, enabling us to become a leading company in the sector.

ACCIONA Agua is present in all the facets and processes involved in water treatment and management, from design to maintenance and operation, both for drinking water and for waste or industrial water, directly contributing to social welfare and sustainable development. In addition, it is a world leader in reverse osmosis desalination.

ACCIONA Agua meets the requirements of a population of more than 50 million people in 20 countries around the world. In Spain, it manages the complete water cycle in 30 towns, for 1.3 million users.

Our actions are concentrated in three directions:

  • Desalination (construction and operation)

    ACCIONA Agua is a world leader in reverse osmosis sea water desalination. It has constructed more than 70 desalination plants, with a total production amounting to 1.3 million m3/day, to supply more than 5 million people. It has wide international experience, with projects in the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Peru, Cape Verde and Algeria.

    In 2007 it has carried out numerous activities and completed projects contributing significantly to the improvement and growth of the desalination industry. Some of the more noteworthy are listed below:

    • Selected by Poseidon Resources Corporation to carry out the design, engineering, construction and commissioning of the largest desalination plant in the United States, in California with a capacity of 204,000 m3/day.
    • Completed construction of the desalination plant in Tampa in the United States with a capacity of108,000 m3/day.
    • Signed a collaboration agreement with the Australian firm, United Utilities Australia, to tender for the design, construction & operation of a desalination plant in Perth.
    • Entrance to the Algerian market through the financing, construction and operation of the Fouka desalination plant with a capacity of 120,000 m3/day.
    • Design and construction of the Thames Gateway desalination plant in Beckton (London, United Kingdom).
    • Operation and maintenance of the salt water desalination plant in Regio di Calabria, Italy. The plant produces 15,000 m3/day of desalinated water.
    • Work commenced on the Torrevieja desalination plant. This is to be the largest plant in Europe and the second largest in the world with a capacity of 240,000 m3/day.
    • ACCIONA Agua was selected as Best Desalination Company 2007 by subscribers to Global Water Intelligence (most prestigious magazine in the sector).
  • Treatment of drinking water, waste water treatment and recycling.

    ACCIONA Agua has constructed more than 100 drinking water treatment plants, with a capacity of almost 62 m3/second, supplying more than 11 million people. The most significant examples are in Spain, Portugal, Italy, China and Puerto Rico.

    It also has handled close to 300 projects  in the construction of waste water and tertiary recycling treatment plants, with a capacity of 6.2 million m3/day, equivalent to a population of more than 28 million inhabitants.

  • Integral water services

    ACCIONA Agua provides the complete management of the water cycle in more than 30 towns in Spain, directly managing the water for more than 1.6 million users.
