Cogeneration significantly contributes to the reduction of global CO2 emissions. It is the most efficient thermal form of generating electricity and heat.

At the end of 2006, ACCIONA had 15 cogeneration plants, two of which are supplied by biomass, generating 793 GWh and avoiding atmospheric emissions of 231,610 tonnes of CO2. Six of these plants are controlled by the emission trading rights directive.
