Ecoefficient construction
Ecoefficient buildings aim to balance the requirements of people and the environment, reducing the consumption of resources and contamination.
These homes are constructed using clean construction processes, without toxic or polluting materials, reducing the quantity of waste produced, and including elements which make better use of resources, mainly energy and water.
Almost half of the energy consumption in developed countries comes from the energy consumed throughout the lives of buildings. Moreover, the buildings impact strongly with the environment, both in the way they are constructed and in their use. This is so much the case that CO2 emissions per home in Spain came to 1.23 tonnes.
ACCIONA Real Estate develops initiatives, under certain established sustainability criteria, where quality and meeting the needs of the today’s society are the premises governing the projects.
ACCIONA Real estate has a number of eco-efficient housing developments. In November 2007, it presented its development of 1100 ecoefficient homes at Barcelona Meeting Point.
Our commitment to sustainable development leads us to propose innovative solutions. In this respect, in October 2007, ACCIONA organised working conferences on Energy Efficiency and Building, promoted by ENCORD, the European alliance of construction companies for research and development, which brought together the major European construction companies with the aim of promoting R&D activities relating to sustainable construction.
A "zero emissions" building
ACCIONA is also working in the area of eco-efficient buildings with the maximum possible use of solar technologies. The most notable example is the headquarters of ACCIONA Solar in Navarra. The building consumes 52% less energy than a conventional building with the same characteristics, as a result of the application of a large number of energy efficient and energy saving measures, meeting 48% of energy requirements with photovoltaic solar energy (electricity), thermal energy (heating) and biodiesel.
This enables it to be a zero emissions building, meeting its energy requirements without producing CO2 emissions.
