A landmark in the desalination sector

Ras Abu Fontas 3 has a capacity of 165,000 m3 per day. The end client for the water is the Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA). The plant supplies a population of 1,1 million people.

The construction of the plant is a true landmark in the desalination sector, as it is the first time reverse osmosis technology is used on a large scale in this country, which only used evaporation technology to desalinate water to date.

The Social Impact Management (SIM) methodology implemented in IDAM Raf A3 carry out different initiatives with a social, economic and environmental dimension, in order to contribute positively in the wellbeing of workers and other stakeholders of the project, promoting the development of the area of influence.

ULTRADAF®

El ULTRADAF® is a water pre-treatment system based on flotation.

ACCIONA has developed ULTRADAF®, which has better hydraulic conditions compared to what currently exists, and an injection system based on installing a set of optimised nozzles, enabling operation at high speeds and with high performance in terms of eliminating polluting substances. ULTRADAF® is used for pre-treatment in several desalination plants, including at Ras Abu Fontas.
